Steamed clams are a classic seafood dish in which whole clams are cooked in their shells by steaming them in a buttery broth. Water, wine, or beer are commonly used to make the broth, which can be seasoned with additions such as garlic, parsley, lemon juice, or onion. Steamed clams are enjoyed in many different cuisines and are especially popular in New England, where clams are plentiful. They are commonly served over pasta or with crusty bread used to soak up the tasty juices.
