Trifle is a layered dessert made with fruit, custard, whipped cream, jam, and cake. This recipe puts an American spin on the classic English trifle and replaces most of the ingredients with brownies and chocolate pudding. The one ingredient shared by both dishes is whipped cream. The word “trifle” comes from the French term trufle, which means something whimsical or of little consequence.
