Marzipan is a sweet paste made with sugar or honey and almond meal. It is commonly made into sweets that are covered in chocolate or is used as an icing for cakes. The sweet treat has ancient origins in Eurasia though it is not clear who first invented it as it can be found throughout the world. Marzipan has been central to German and Swiss desserts since the 1400s and is also popular in Spanish culinary traditions.
