Peppermint bark consists of bits of peppermint candy nestled atop a sheet of chocolate. It is made with milk chocolate, white chocolate, or a layer of each hardened into a flat sheet. When the sheet of chocolate is broken into pieces, it resembles small chunks of bark, which explains how it got its name. Some recipes add peppermint extract to the chocolate for even more minty flavor. This chocolate confection is most popular around Christmastime, with several companies selling it seasonally.
