Whipped cream is a commonly used ingredient in dessert recipes and as a topping. Made by whisking heavy cream, it is often sweetened and flavored with vanilla. When whipped cream first started being made in England during the 16th century it was a laborious technique that took at least an hour. It wasn’t until the end of the 19th century with the invention of centrifuge-separated, high-fat cream that it became a much quicker and easier process.
