Sisig Pusit

Sisig is a Filipino meat dish that most commonly includes chopped pork flavored with onion, citrus, and chili peppers. Dating to the 17th century, there are many variations of sisig and the dish usually includes fried egg. Pusit is the Filipino word for squid, with this variation of sisig a Filipino favorite.

  1. Prepare grill and warm to medium heat.
  2. Rub squid with 1 teaspoon of salt and let sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Grill squid for 3–4 minutes on each side. Do not overcook or squid will get tough. Remove from grill and let cool.
  4. Chop the grilled squid into little pieces.
  5. Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat and cook onion, ginger, and garlic until onion is soft, about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Stir in the chopped squid and cook for about 1 minute.
  7. Add garlic powder, remaining 1 teaspoon of salt, and soy sauce. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 2–3 minutes.
  8. Transfer to a serving plate. 
  9. Garnish with chopped scallions, if using.
