The Z-Man sandwich was born in 1997, when Kansas City radio station deejay Mike Zarrick—known as Z-Man on the air—held a contest inviting listeners to name a local restaurant’s new sandwich. It wasn’t long before everyone coming to the restaurant asked for “that Z-Man sandwich.” So the name stuck. The Z-Man sandwich still exists today, but nobody remembers what name won the contest.
