Carrot apple salad, called surówka z marchewki in Polish, is a classic slaw from Poland. The recipe combines grated carrots and apples, tossed in a tangy sunflower oil dressing with raisins. Simple, healthy, and delicious, this salad-type dish may be enjoyed on its own, or as a refreshing accompaniment to hearty meat dishes.

Ingredients
- 5 carrots, peeled and grated
- 1 apple, peeled and grated
- Juice of ½ a lemon
- 1 Tbsp sunflower oil
- ½ cup raisins
- salt, to taste
- sugar, to taste
Directions
- Soak the raisins in water for 15 minutes.
- Drain the raisins.
- Combine the carrots, apple, lemon juice, sunflower oil, soaked raisins, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Mix well.
- Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes, until chilled.
- Serve cold.
