As an accompaniment to spicy dishes, cucumber yogurt salad is found throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean. Known as cacik in Turkey and tzatziki in Greece, it is considered meze, an appetizer or a selection of small dishes served at the beginning of multi-course meals. As a dip it can be served with pita bread. Variations call for the inclusion of lemon juice and mint, and it can be blended and used as a condiment. This is a great salad on hot summer days or for cooling the palate after a spicy dish.
