The first bonbons were created in the 17th century for the French royal court, where the word bonbon is synonymous with “candy.” Austrian composer Johann Strauss II made his fondness for bonbons clear by composing the waltz "Wiener Bonbons." Bonbons came to America in the late 1800s where they evolved to become a sweet, round confection covered in a thin chocolate shell. This version has a filling of walnuts and almonds.
