Considering cacao-based foods were commonly consumed in Mesoamerican cultures, it is possible that a version of chocolate-covered raisins was enjoyed by these ancient societies. However, coating fruit in chocolate didn’t start becoming well-known until the 19th century. The first time this type of sweet treat was sold commercially was in 1927 when Raisinets were introduced. National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day is observed March 24.
