The Fluffernutter sandwich is a traditional food of New England where Marshmallow Fluff was invented. Archibald Query of Somerville, Massachusetts, created what he called marshmallow crème in 1917. In 1920 he sold his recipe to the Durkee-Mower Company, where it was renamed Toot Sweet Marshmallow Fluff. To advertise their product, the company sponsored a weekly radio show in New England called the Flufferettes show, which is most likely where the idea for the name Fluffernutter originated. National Fluffernutter Day is October 8.
